Breathless Reads: THE INNOCENTS Contest!

Hi! Today we’re celebrating the release of THE INNOCENTS by Lili Peloquin! It’s the second of this fall’s Breathless Reads, and Penguin has generously offered a giveaway! But first – what’s this book about?

Nothing ever came between sisters Alice and Charlie.
Friends didn’t.
Boys couldn’t.
Their family falling apart never would.
Until they got to Serenity Point.

THE INNOCENTS is the first in a new series of young adult novels that weave a saga of nail-biting drama, breathless romance, and gothic mystery.

You all know I adore books about sisters, and I also happen to enjoy stories about messed-up rich people (ala REVENGE or, more aptly in this case, GOSSIP GIRL). Mix in the ghostly presence of Alice and Charlie’s stepsister Camilla and a boy who makes Chuck Bass look stable, and THE INNOCENTS is an awfully fun, twisty read!

Now for the interview with Lili:

1. Describe your main character in 3 adjectives + a noun.

I’ve got two main characters, so you have to give me some leeway here.

Alice is a smart, thoughtful, protective sister.

Charlie is an impulsive, headstrong, loyal sister.

2. Describe your book in 3 adjectives + a noun.

A haunting, smoldering, seductive mystery.

3. Describe yourself in 3 adjectives + a noun.

An impatient, bookish, bad-tempered human being. (I’m no fun at all, basically.)

4. If you could travel to any 3 countries, what would they be?

I like to talk and I only speak English so: England, Canada and Australia. (Plus Canada and Australian seem to produce a disproportionate number of great-looking male actors.)

5. If you could take any 3 non-writing-related classes, what would they be?

Two literature classes and a cooking class.

6. If you could have 3 alternate careers, what would they be?

Professional tennis player.  Starlet.  That’s it.  I can only come up with two.

7. What are 3 of your favorite flowers?

Lilies, Lilies, Lilies.  For obvious reasons. (JS: ha!)

8. What are 3 of your favorite foods?

String cheese, shrimp cocktail, Pop-Tarts. (JS: S’mores Pop-Tarts are the best. Breakfast of champions!)

9. What are 3 of your favorite books?

THE MAGUS by John Fowles.  LULU INCOGNITO by Raymond Kennedy. GREAT EXPECTATIONS by Charles Dickens.

Thanks, Lili! And now for our giveaway, which is a finished copy of THE INNOCENTS from Penguin and a BORN WICKED swag pack from me. Open US only until Saturday at midnight.

  1. Fun interview! The 3 adjectives + a noun answer has me even more excited about this Breathless Reads title. Ah! I can't wait to read this. Side notes… Dying to go to Canada one day! Also, I haven't eaten a poptart in a few years. I really do feel terrible about that.

The Innocents sounds like my type of book. I love dramas mixed with romance. Plus, I'm game for anything with sibling rivalry, especially among sister. As only growing up with brothers, three to be exact, I find reading about sister relationships intriguing and fun. =D

  3. Great interview! I'm still not exactly sure what it's about, but with two sisters it's bound to be full of drama and awesomeness. Thanks for the giveaway Jessica 🙂
